About the Organization

Education Evolving is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Minnesota dedicated to advancing equity-driven, student-centered learning. Their mission is to ensure every student is seen, valued, and supported through learning designs that honor identity, interests, and aspirations. They are national leaders in the Teacher-Powered Schools movement, equity in learning design, and community-driven education policy.

Each year, Education Evolving co-hosts the Student-Centered Learning for Equity (SCL4E) convening alongside the Bush Foundation. This event gathers educators, students, policymakers, and community leaders to co-learn and co-lead around equity in education.

About the Event

The 2024 convening was held on May 7, 2024, at the Guthrie Theater (Minneapolis) and online, under the theme:
“Seeing Learners, Building Leaders.”

The convening featured:

  • Student and adult co-led breakout sessions

  • Keynote panel moderated by MPR’s Angela Davis

  • Student performances including Somali dance, spoken word, and choir

  • Workshops and storytelling that elevated youth voices

This year’s theme emphasized recognizing students as leaders and shifting power in education toward equity, identity, and voice.

Our Role & Deliverables

Unbox Creative Studio was engaged to design the full visual identity system for the 2024 convening. We created a cohesive suite of print, digital, and environmental designs that aligned with Education Evolving’s mission and the event’s theme.

Deliverables included:

  • Event logo lockups & identity system (wordmarks, graphic assets, color palette)

  • Event posters and banners for Guthrie Theater and public spaces

  • Presenter credentials & name badges

  • Stage design & environmental graphics for breakout spaces and keynotes

  • Directional signage (“Breakout Sessions Ahead,” welcome signage)

  • Digital & print marketing collateral (registration posters, social graphics, stickers)

  • Merchandise & apparel (event T-shirts, branded stickers, tote concepts)

Design Concept

The identity was built around three core visual ideas:

  1. Birds in Flight → representing students as leaders, each with unique patterns yet part of a collective movement.

  2. Watercolor Gradients → symbolizing creativity, equity, and the blending of diverse identities and voices.

  3. Playful Illustration & Typography → pairing bold, modern typography with hand-drawn textures to balance professionalism with approachability.

The system extended seamlessly across physical environments, digital media, and participant experiences — creating a unified, inspiring atmosphere for attendees.
